Marriage Counseling | Houston, TX
Our trained therapists work with you and your partner to help you overcome relationship challenges, strengthen your connection, and build the partnership you desire.
Do You Feel More Like Roommates Than Partners?
• You are both showing up, handling the kids, managing the house, going to work, doing everything that needs to get done, but the two of you are barely connecting along the way.
• Conversations that used to be easy now turn into arguments, or they do not happen at all because it just does not feel worth the fight.
• You look good on the outside, functioning, maybe even thriving by most measures, but emotionally you feel like you are living parallel lives.
• You miss the way things used to feel, or maybe you are realizing they never quite felt right and you have just been hoping it would sort itself out.
• You love each other, but right now that does not feel like enough to bridge the distance between you.
Somewhere along the way, you stopped being a team. Life got busy, responsibilities piled up, and the two of you started operating more like opponents than partners, each managing your own corner instead of building something together. That is an incredibly common place to end up, and it does not mean your marriage is over. It means it needs attention.
Two Different Couples, One Very Familiar Feeling
Some couples come to us grieving something they once had. They remember feeling close, feeling chosen, feeling like a real partnership, and they want to find their way back to that. Other couples come in knowing it was never quite right to begin with, that they kept going, kept building a life together, hoping things would click into place on their own. Both are welcome here. Wherever you are starting from, marriage counseling can help you get to something better.
If you could just get back to feeling like a team, or finally build that connection for the first time, everything would feel different. That is exactly what we are here to help you do
It Is Easy to Get Here. That Does Not Mean You Have to Stay.
Disconnection does not happen because a couple stops caring. It happens because life is full, and in the fullness of it, the relationship quietly moves to the back of the line. Work demands, children, financial stress, aging parents, and the relentless pace of everyday life all have a way of slowly pushing intimacy and connection out of the picture. Before long, two people who genuinely love each other are functioning side by side without really reaching each other at all.
You Are Not the Only Couple Who Waited
On average, couples wait six to ten years before seeking marriage therapy, often hoping things will improve on their own or not wanting to admit how serious things have become.1 By the time most couples arrive in a therapist's office, the patterns between them are well established, and the distance feels significant. But that does not mean it is too late. We work with couples at every stage, from the early years to decades in, and we see real change happen when both people are willing to show up for the process.
Struggling in your marriage does not mean you chose the wrong person or that something is fundamentally broken. It means you are human, and you have been navigating a lot, probably without enough support. Couples therapy can help you change that.
Marriage Therapy That Gets Underneath the Arguments
At Unload It Therapy, we use Emotionally Focused Therapy, one of the most well-researched and effective approaches for couples, to help you do more than manage conflict. We help you understand the cycle that is keeping you stuck, the predictable pattern of disconnection that plays out between you, often without either of you fully realizing it, and we give you a way to interrupt it and do something new.
What Our Sessions Look Like
Our standard couples sessions are 90 minutes rather than the typical 50, because we have found that real work takes time. Fifty minutes is often just long enough to open something up, but not enough time to work through it. Ninety minutes allows us to slow things down, get underneath the surface, and actually uncover what is driving the dynamic between you. We follow a clear roadmap with EFT, moving through stages that are designed to help you rebuild your bond in a sustainable way, not just feel better temporarily.
Our goal is not to keep you in couples counseling indefinitely. It is to give you the tools, the understanding, and the connection to move forward on your own without needing to come back. That is what a real roadmap looks like.
What Becomes Possible
Couples who do this work start to feel like teammates again. They learn to recognize when they are falling into the old cycle and how to reach for each other instead of pulling away or escalating. The arguments become less frequent and less damaging. The emotional connection that felt so far away starts to come back. And they move forward with a shared language and a shared understanding of how to take care of their relationship when life gets hard again, because it will. That is not a failure. That is just marriage.

We understand that feeling, and we want to be honest with you. If you are genuinely on the fence about whether you want to save the marriage, discernment counseling might actually be a better starting point for you. It is designed specifically for couples who are not sure yet, and it helps both of you get clear on what you actually want before committing to the full process. If you are ready to try, marriage counseling can absolutely still make a difference, no matter how long it has been. But clarity first is never a wrong place to start.

We hear this a lot, and it is a fair concern. Many couples stop therapy when things start feeling better, before the real work is finished. Feeling improvement is not the same as completing the process, and discontinuing early is one of the most common reasons couples find themselves back at square one. What we offer is different in that we follow a structured EFT roadmap with a clear beginning, middle, and end. The goal is to get you to a place where you genuinely do not need to come back, not just a place where things feel tolerable again.

That is exactly why our standard couples sessions are 90 minutes. We built them that way intentionally because we know that 50 minutes is often not enough time to get to what really matters. And if you feel like you need an even more intensive start, a couples intensive might be the right move for you. Intensives allow us to do concentrated, deep work in a shorter period of time, giving your relationship a real head start before moving into regular sessions. We can talk through what that looks like during your consultation.
