Whether you're seeking to navigate ongoing connection or communication issues or reduce time spent in sessions, couples intensives are an effective way to address challenges and witness tangible results in a short timeframe.
"Couples intensives allow us to accomplish in one weekend what might take significantly longer in traditional weekly therapy.
Is intensive therapy right for you?
Intensive Couples Therapy can help you if you and your partner are either currently in or have previously attended couples therapy and find it difficult to adjust your busy schedules to accommodate weekly therapy.
Couples Intensives are a great fit for couples who are motivated to make changes within the relationship and ready to commit to concentrated, focused therapeutic work.
For couples experiencing substantial difficulties or crises in their relationship, intensives are a great avenue to learn the skills you need to work on and overcome them.
Who benefits from intensive couples therapy?
With Unload It Therapy, the depth of couples intensives allows us to support couples who are interested in making their relationship work but find themselves unable to navigate challenges independently. Whether struggling with jam-packed schedules that make weekly therapy impractical, or facing communication breakdowns, betrayal, infidelity, or attachment injuries, couples intensives provide a powerful avenue for concentrated and immediate results.
In our practice, we use research-based assessments to precisely identify problem areas, enabling focused, targeted intervention. The goal is to guide clients through an immersive experience that enhances their self-awareness and emotional connection.
How Can Intensive Couples Therapy Help You?
Unlike traditional therapy, where days or sometimes weeks pass between sessions, couples intensives break free from time constraints. Couples benefit from having two days dedicated to addressing the issues at hand, providing an opportunity for immediate relief. Our tailored approach acknowledges that many couples may not be able to complete traditional therapy, and intensives offer the opportunity to accomplish in one weekend what might otherwise take significantly longer.
In our practice, we use research-based assessments to precisely identify problem areas, enabling focused, targeted intervention. The goal is to guide clients through an immersive experience that enhances their self-awareness and emotional connection. By providing tools for self-regulation and effective communication, the intensive sessions are designed to help you experience your desired relationship outcomes.
In Couples Intensive Therapy, we blend Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman methods to create an effective, personalized approach that gets to the heart of relationship challenges. We start by diving into sensitive topics that are hard to discuss, such as past hurts or moments when one partner felt ignored or left out.
EFT draws couples closer by meticulously tracking the cycle of negative patterns and interactions. This process allows for the exploration of alternative interactions that foster greater understanding and connection. The infusion of Gottman techniques—including the use of pulse monitors to track emotional arousal—adds a dynamic dimension to intensives, enabling couples to become aware of heightened emotional states and learn effective strategies for managing and responding to them.
We incorporate the Gottman method because it helps us understand attachment needs and the patterns that contribute to emotional distancing. The restructuring of interactions involves emotional processing and the development of new emotional responses, facilitating a positive transformation in how couples engage with each other. We do our best to allow both parties to feel seen and heard and to create ‘vibing moments’ by providing a welcoming environment, a listening ear, and combining elements of both EFT and the Gottman approach.
Where appropriate, we also weave EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) into the intensive experience. When one or both partners are carrying trauma, shame, or the weight of betrayal, that emotional load can make it difficult to be fully present in the room together. In those cases, we may begin with individual EMDR sessions for each partner, allowing each person to process what they are carrying separately before coming together for the conjoint work. For some couples, we also incorporate conjoint EMDR reprocessing, where both partners participate in the reprocessing experience together. This can be a powerful way to address the impact of shared painful experiences, including infidelity and attachment injuries, in a way that deepens understanding and accelerates connection. Not every couple will need this, but for those who do, it can be one of the most transformative parts of the intensive process.

Why Intensive Couples Therapy May Be The Right Choice...
Intensive therapy can help if...
Intensive couples therapy can help if you have experienced infidelity, disconnection, or communication issues—or if you and your partner are experiencing an unexpected stage in life and feel you’re growing apart but still want to try to work things out.
Intensive therapy may not be for you if...
Intensive couples therapy might not be suitable if one or both partners are engaged in an ongoing affair, if the couple struggles to share the same space productively for extended periods, or if there’s a presence of violence such as hitting, insulting, screaming, or threatening.
If a couple is not prepared for the rapid pace of change that comes with an intensive approach, alternative therapeutic options may be more appropriate.
