Meet Roma Williams, LMFT-S

Founder & Clinical Director · Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist · Relationship & Trauma Specialist

Hey, welcome to Unload It Therapy!

I believe that so much of what we struggle with today is connected to what we've experienced, what we've learned to carry, and what we've never quite figured out how to put down.

Sometimes that shows up in our relationships. We keep having the same arguments, struggle to communicate what we really need, or feel disconnected from the people we love. Other times, it looks like anxiety, burnout, people-pleasing, or being the person everyone depends on while quietly wondering who's showing up for us.

And sometimes, despite doing everything we know to do, we still feel stuck. That's where our work begins.

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, supervisor, and founder of Unload It Therapy. For more than 15 years, I've helped individuals and couples make sense of the patterns keeping them stuck, work through difficult experiences, and build healthier relationships with themselves and others.

My approach is compassionate, but I'm also going to challenge you.

I'm not interested in having you come to therapy week after week just to talk about everything that's going wrong. I want us to understand why it's happening, what's keeping it going, and what we can actually do differently.

As a systemic therapist, I don't look at your struggles in isolation. I consider the relationships, family dynamics, experiences, and beliefs that have shaped how you see yourself and navigate the world. Because sometimes the very things that helped you survive are the things making it difficult for you to thrive.

How I help

Relationships, anxiety, and trauma

My work focuses on relationships, anxiety, and trauma, with a particular passion for helping couples who feel disconnected, overwhelmed by conflict, or uncertain about their future together.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)EMDRDiscernment counselingCouples intensives

These approaches let me help clients move beyond managing symptoms or learning communication skills, to the deeper emotional experiences and patterns driving their struggles.

Whether we're working through betrayal, rebuilding emotional intimacy, processing trauma, or exploring why you keep finding yourself in the same painful situations, my goal is to help you develop greater awareness, process what you've been carrying, and create lasting change.

And while therapy is serious work, that doesn't mean every moment has to feel heavy. I bring warmth, honesty, humor, and a genuine curiosity about who you are into our sessions. You don't have to have all the right words or know exactly where to begin.

You just have to be willing to show up and do the work.

A Little About My Background

I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University and my master's degree in Family Therapy from Mercer University School of Medicine. My clinical experience spans community mental health, addiction treatment, crisis intervention, and working with veterans navigating complex mental health concerns.

But my passion for helping people communicate and connect doesn't stop at the therapy room.

I'm also the author of Unload It: Break Old Cycles, Speak with Confidence, and Create Stronger Connections, a book that helps readers recognize the patterns, emotions, and experiences influencing how they communicate and relate to others. My belief is simple: when we better understand ourselves, we can change how we show up in our relationships.

That same philosophy shapes my work beyond the therapy room. Through my corporate consulting and speaking services, I bring my expertise in human behavior, communication, and relationships into the workplace, helping organizations address communication challenges, navigate conflict, and develop stronger leaders and teams.

Whether I'm sitting across from a couple, speaking to an audience, or working with an organization, the goal remains the same: helping people break unhelpful patterns, communicate more effectively, and create meaningful connections.

Originally from Vallejo, California, I bring my own personality, experiences, and perspective into the work I do. I value meaningful conversations, laughter, family, travel, and finding moments to enjoy life outside of all its responsibilities.

What I want you to know

You don't have to wait until your relationship is falling apart, your anxiety feels unbearable, or you've reached your breaking point to get support. And you don't have to figure everything out on your own.

My hope is that our work helps you better understand yourself, interrupt patterns that no longer serve you, and create the kinds of relationships and experiences you actually want.

You deserve more than just getting through life. You deserve to feel connected, supported, and free to be yourself.

Let's unload what's been weighing you down.
